An AI-powered benchmarking model in development for early-stage climate technology start-ups in the energy industry.

ClimateTechIQ is being developed to assess the features that conventional financial metrics can miss: technology readiness, scalability, and whether ownership and governance fit the time horizons of deep decarbonisation.
The project draws on OCTD’s methodologies for working in data-scarce markets. It is being developed with Improvability AI. The funder is Innovate UK, with Eurogia.
How far has the technology progressed?
What will it take to move beyond the pilot?
Does the structure fit the venture’s mission?
Can decisions support long-term decarbonisation?

Pre-commercialThe development pathway
Build the assessment approach around the realities of early-stage energy ventures and markets where data is scarce.
Apply the benchmark to real venture pipelines, publish the methodology and agree a commercial structure before the grant closes.
Develop a licensing model for the benchmark, informed by project learning and partner use.
ClimateTechIQ is currently in development. Commercialisation is planned from late 2027. Contact OCTD to discuss the project or potential design partner involvement.
The model focuses on early-stage climate technology ventures in the energy industry, and the evidence investors need to understand their readiness, scalability, ownership and governance.
The benchmark aims to look beyond return on investment. It considers whether a venture’s technology, structure and governance can support the longer horizons required for deep decarbonisation, including in data-scarce markets.
