Dr Emre Eren Korkmaz (Founder-Director)

I am a seasoned academic and consultant with expertise at the intersection of technological innovation, climate crisis, migration, and international development.

With almost a decade of experience at the University of Oxford, where I currently serve as a Researcher at the Centre on Migration, Policy and Society (COMPAS), I specialize in migration studies, digital identity, and social impact.

As the Founder-Director of OCTD Ltd, I bring a unique blend of academic rigour and practical consultancy to my work. My expertise in technological innovation, climate crisis, migration, and international development allows me to address data scarcity in emerging markets, develop innovative tech solutions for humanitarian action, and support climate tech initiatives across the globe.

I have had the privilege of working with a diverse range of clients, including international organizations, governments, and private sector clients. I’ve consulted on high-profile projects with organizations such as Google, Meta, World Food Programme, IFRC, EBRD, UK Home Office and IOM, offering insights on digital innovation, data management, and social responsibility in sectors ranging from climate tech to humanitarian aid.

My work has spanned from lecturing on migration and development to managing multi-stakeholder research projects, focusing on how emerging technologies can transform the lives of vulnerable populations.

Driven by a commitment to bridge the gap between academia and real-world applications, my recent projects involve developing benchmarking models and impact assessment frameworks for climate tech startups in Africa, Europe, and beyond.

I am passionate about fostering collaborations that drive systemic change and have been actively involved in thought leadership through keynotes at global conferences, publications in leading journals, and curating exhibitions on migration and social justice. Through my research and publications, including the monograph “Smart Borders, Digital Identity, and Big Data,” I aim to inspire innovative approaches to migration management, data governance, and sustainability.

My work aims to foster meaningful dialogue between academia, industry, and policy-makers. This dialogue is essential to accelerate social impact in the climate tech and sustainable development sectors, and I invite you to be part of it.
