We believe there is a better way forward.
Our manifesto

Transition to a net-zero economy is the defining challenge and opportunity of our time. Moving from a breakthrough idea to a globally scaled impactful enterprise is fraught with challenges that capital alone cannot solve. Technologies that can alleviate global challenges fail to reach markets that need them most. It is growingly evident that the conventional innovation pipeline has shortcomings and failures. Private capital, and increasingly public funding, keeps flowing to familiar geographies and familiar models, often leaving the most consequential opportunities underserved. Promising ventures get left behind not because they lack ideas but because they are served inferior support at the critical moments.

Solving this market failure demands a new philosophy of collaboration, methods of cooperation, patient capital structures, frontier intelligence and hands-on support. We demand partners that understand decarbonisation ambitions, climate resilience, and response to regulations requires proven technologies. We demand investors that are willing to move beyond the limitations of the conventional venture capital model toward structures built in better alignment with the long-term realities of climate technologies. We demand that those with the power to deploy innovation in emerging economies do so with the understanding that bridging local needs and global innovation is a strategy. OCTD works with partners at the forefront of building this new paradigm and we extend a direct invitation to join us in this critical work.

Oxford Centre for Technology and Development (OCTD) offers a tried and tested alternative to overcome the shortcomings and failures of the conventional innovation pipeline. We go beyond identifying problems to contribute to solutions. We orchestrate entire value chains; We facilitate access to complex and promising emerging markets; We build ecosystems for impact driven ventures to thrive. OCTD's venture portfolio demonstrates hands-on, practice-driven approach, welcoming ventures that are actively contributing to a more sustainable and resilient future.
